The Community Liaison volunteer role supports youth ages 14-18 as they design and implement social justice projects throughout Wake County. Volunteers will mentor small groups of students, helping them research, plan, and carry out initiatives that promote equity, justice, and community empowerment. Community Liaisons foster leadership, critical thinking, and advocacy skills, empowering youth to make a lasting impact.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete a 1-hour volunteer training session prior to engagement.
- Attend in-person youth project meetings 2-3 times per month, depending on project needs.
- Build strong, supportive connections with youth participants.
- Guide youth groups in brainstorming, researching, and developing actionable social justice projects.
- Help youth navigate community relationships, partnerships, and project logistics.
- Uphold a commitment to youth-led leadership and respect each group’s unique ideas and goals.
- Communicate promptly with TRC staff regarding group needs or concerns.
Requirements
Volunteers with experience in community organizing, education, youth development, advocacy, nonprofit leadership, or a related area are especially encouraged to apply. Passion for social justice and youth empowerment is essential. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of youth. Willingness to complete a background check (provided at no cost by TRC). Reliable transportation for in-person meetings preferred (TRC is based in downtown Raleigh).
